PAPA ROACH Frontman On South American Tour Cancelation: 'I Am A Human, Not A Machine'
August 6, 2013PAPA ROACH singer Jacoby Shaddix has apologized to the band's fans after the group's South American tour was canceled due to the fact that he is having "vocal issues."
In a posting on PAPA ROACH's Facebook page, Jacoby wrote: "To all the South American fans…
"I write this with a heavy heart.
"I have read a lot of posts about how you feel about us canceling our shows in South America… Some are positive and some are extremely negative. (Some went as far as saying we should die. WTF???!!!)
"Trust me, I would love to not have to deal with these vocal-cord issues at all.
"Don't forget — I am a HUMAN, not a MACHINE. When a guitar string breaks, you change it, but when a vocal cord breaks, time and silence is the ONLY thing that heals it.
"I pray to GOD I don't have to have surgery again.
"If you know anything about ME and PAPA ROACH is we always give it 100 percent. Sometimes that 100 percent breaks us.
"I would LOVE nothing more than to be in South America playing these shows.
"My HEART goes out to the people that bought bus and plane tickets to come see us. You're NOT ALONE — we bought tickets down there too (that are not refundable as well).
"As far as the money goes, we would love to be able to do the shows in South America and get paid. In fact, we are losing a ton of money by not going. But my HEALTH comes first.
"I am doing the best I can. But in this case, to some of you, fans, my best is not good enough. I PRAY that you find it in your hearts to understand. And trust me, we will reschedule and come to South America as soon as we can. I got nothin but love for ya!!!!
"Yeah, I know I didn't write in all caps this time… (Double clicking the CAPS sign over and over sucks HAHA).
"Love, Jacoby."
There is no indication yet whether this will affect PAPA ROACH's slot on the upcoming Carnival Of Madness tour, which is scheduled to kick off on August 13 in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
It was just over a year ago — in August 2012 — that PAPA ROACH was forced to pull off the road for two months after Shaddix underwent surgery to remove nodes from his vocal cords.
Shaddix told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that as a result of his surgery he had to learn how to take better care of his voice. "I've got to create a new discipline for vocalizing, you know, really concentrate on my warm-ups," he said. "Concentrate on what I eat. You know, concentrate on getting proper rest — like, all these things that I never wanted to do before, like, I have to do now. 'Cause I'm gettin' old! [laughs]"
Asked by the Armed Forces Network at the end of last year how his voice was holding up, Shaddix said, "Voice is great. I'm slaying it on the shows so far and I feel really good. I was definitely blessed to go to the right doctor and get my surgery performed by him. It was scary, but I'm good."
PAPA ROACH has been touring in support of its 2012 album "The Connection", which debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard album chart. The latest single from the disc is "Leader Of The Broken Hearts".
